Concerts in the Liszt Museum’s 2026/27 Season

In the Chamber Hall of the Liszt Museum, located in the Old Academy of Music, the founder of the Academy, Franz Liszt, who was its first tenant, established the tradition of weekend concerts. Since 1986, when the Liszt Museum opened its doors, this tradition has been flourishing, and every Saturday morning audiences have been able to enjoy performances by renowned Hungarian and international musicians.

The 2026/27 concert season offers exciting programmes. Pianists Edit Klukon and Dezső Ránki have been regular performers at the Liszt Museum since 1986, therefore, and they will also give two concerts during the Liszt Museum 40 event series marking the museum's 40th anniversary in September.

Birthday events will take place not only to celebrate the anniversary of the Liszt Museum’s opening, but also, according to tradition, to mark Liszt’s birthday in October. The Rector of the Liszt Academy, Gábor Farkas, will perform with Peter Edelmann, alongside Fülöp Ránki and the winner of the Liszt Piano Competition, Utrecht. The Old Academy of Music is committed to providing young talents with performance opportunities every year. Accordingly, besides the winners of the Liszt Piano Competition, Utrecht, the winners of the Liszt Competitions in Sophia and Ohio will also perform, together with the most gifted members of the young Hungarian generation, including Ildikó Rozsonits and János Palojtay.

Morning concerts in November will be connected to the Liszt Museum’s temporary exhibitions. The finissage of the current exhibition, "The Life and Work of Jenő Hubay", will be marked by a concert featuring works by Hubay. Then, a week later, the new temporary exhibition on Liszt’s Sonata in B minor will be opened by a performance of the work itself, performed by Kenneth Hamilton, who is also well known to Budapest audiences.

The different institutions of the Liszt Academy will also be showcased. Pianist Ferenc János Szabó, Director of the Liszt Academy Library, and singer Judit Rajk, Director of the Kodály Institute, will each give a concert. 

The Liszt Museum organises exhibitions, conferences, and concerts in collaboration with numerous cultural institutions from abroad. One example of this, besides the Sonata in B minor exhibition, is the concert jointly organised with the Austrian Cultural Institute, at which the renowned Accio Piano Trio from Salzburg will perform. In the autumn season renowned professors of the Liszt Academy, Ditta Rohmann and Márta Gulyás, Erzsébet Seleljo and Anasztázia Razvaliaieva, and, finally, Yvette Mondok and László Borbély will give chamber music concerts. 

In the first part of the 2026/27 season, the audience will hear,  among other works, Schubert’s Winterreise, works by Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók, and, of course, compositions by Franz Liszt, ranging from his late sacred works to the Dante Sonata, the Petrarch Sonnets, the Transcendental Études, and the aforementioned Sonata in B minor.
