Cziffra Exhibition at the Liszt Museum
A new exhibition at the Liszt Museum, entitled From Franz Liszt to György Cziffra – History of the Hungarian Piano School, opened on 20 February 2026. It will welcome visitors free of charge until 30 June.
The twelve tableaux of the exhibition present a comprehensive picture of the Hungarian piano school from Franz Liszt to György Cziffra, encompassing the extraordinary tradition of piano teaching based on a unique methodology. This tradition produced such legendary artists as Géza Anda, Béla Bartók, Ernst von Dohnányi, Annie Fischer, Louis Kentner, Edward Kilényi, and Imre Ungár, whose recordings are still known and recognised worldwide today. The joint exhibition by the Cziffra Festival and the Franz Liszt Memorial Museum and Research Centre traces the history of the Hungarian piano school from its beginnings – from Franz Liszt’s Academy of Music – through to the 1950s showcasing pianists and piano pedagogues such as István Thomán, Árpád Szendy, Arnold Székely, Béla Bartók, Ernst von Dohnányi, Imre Keéri-Szántó, and György Cziffra.
