The training I received at the Academy was difficult and at times harsh, but those who survived the experience emerged as real musicians.

Clarinet-Saxophone Festival

Cancelled

Nicholas Cox (clarinet), Nicolas Prost (saxophone)

The Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music organizes the Klaxo 2022 clarinet-saxophone festival between 12–15 March. At this international gathering on the Solti Hall stage of the Liszt Academy, we can welcome the most significant clarinettists and saxophonists on the classical and jazz scene, in addition to which there is an exhibition of instruments, master classes and a teacher extension training programme to further enhance this four-day series. Instrument makers such as Buffet Crampon, Selmer, Schwenk & Seggelke and Yamaha take part in the organization of the event. Daily tickets are available for the festival. The festival closes with clarinet and saxophone music courtesy of two renowned artists. Nicholas Cox was first clarinettist of Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra between 1992 and 2014. As soloist, he has performed at, among other venues, the Wigmore Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, and at the Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Brighton and Huddersfield Festivals. His teaching career at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music goes back more than 20 years. Among his albums, recordings of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major and Clarinet Quintet in A major are particularly outstanding; on their release in 2003, they immediately won Classic FM’s CD of the Week, subsequently becoming one of the station’s most frequently broadcast versions of this much-loved work. Nicolas Prost’s saxophone concerts blend classical and contemporary music with improvization, talk, gestures and electronic music. As soloist, he has been a guest performer with Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and Suisse Romande Orchestra. He is first saxophonist of Concerts Lamoureux of Paris and he frequently performs around the world as a member of Ensemble Variances and Saxiana in his role as chamber musician. His CDs have attracted 5-star reviews from respected magazines including Classica and Diapason d’Or. He is actively involved in expanding the contemporary saxophone canon and has published several books. Currently he teaches at the Conservatoire de Saint-Maur in Paris and holds master classes all over the world. Prost is official artist ambassador for Yamaha Musique Europe.
