In September 2021, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra and the Liszt Academy launched a new initiative. Part of this sees the ensemble, under the professional leadership of István Várdai, run courses for students of the university on the know-how needed for perfect orchestral playing. This concert is one of the highpoints of the project; it is the opportunity for the most gifted students to perform alongside the world-famous orchestra. Conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy expertly guides the orchestra and the audience from sensitive sentimentalism through strident Romanticism and heart-breaking emotional waves towards a denouement of destructive lover jealousy. Zoltán Fejérvári’s pianist personality promises a perfect Chopin interpretation while the chamber orchestral version of the Puccini string quartet almost transforms it into opera played on string instruments. The second half of the concert features one of the most successful arrangements in music: the variation of Carmen for strings and percussion.
