Please allow me that, apart from my regrettable ignorance of the Hungarian language, I remain Magyar in my heart and soul from birth to the grave. As a consequence, I earnestly wish to further the progress of Hungarian music.

Music Speaks! – presentation in Hungarian

Part 3 / Is this a dance?

Balázs Fülei (piano)

The relationship between music and movement can be traced back to ancient times. Most of the works by European composers include European dances or rhythm formulas and figures referring to them: sarabande, waltz, mazurka, polka, verbunk and many others. Does it matter? What makes the performance dance? What dance elements does the composition use? A unique trip with dances, from Bach to Bartók.

This concert series by Balázs Fülei, Liszt Prize-winning pianist, creates a new genre. The special feature of the series is that it is not the list of pieces that are set in the programme, but the themes. Themes that are related to our everyday life. We ourselves are included in the compositions, too. If a piece touches us then there is a common thread and we can find our own life in it. In the series, through the thoughts of Balázs Fülei, we can experience that even the works that are the most difficult to understand can easily be approached.

The lecture will be given in Hungarian.
