Balázs Szabó (organ)
Since 2011, Balázs Szabó has been shaping the new generation of Hungarian organists, and under his leadership, an organology course has also been held at the Liszt Academy. The Grand Hall’s instrument – Hungary’s largest romantic-style and simultaneously largest historic organ – now shines in its former glory thanks to the reconstruction he led. It is no exaggeration to say that Szabó knows every secret of this instrument, and in his upcoming solo recital, he will showcase its full capabilities. The program spans from the 17th to the 20th century. Representing the Baroque era are Johann Sebastian Bach and the slightly earlier Juan Bautista Cabanilles. Max Reger, although a late Romantic, can also be placed in this context, as his style heavily draws on Bach’s musical legacy. The program also includes Maurice Duruflé’s three-movement suite, along with works by two former students and teachers of the Liszt Academy: Dezső Antalffy-Zsiross and György Ligeti.
