Benedek Devich (double bass), János Palojtay (piano)

Benedek Devich, Junior Prima Award-winning double bass player, is an outstanding talent of the young generation of Hungarian musicians. He has participated as a chamber musician in several renowned festivals, including Kaposfest, Kronberg Academy, Verbier Festival and Krzyżowa Music. His artistic credo is that the double bass is not only an accompanying instrument, but can also be a lyrical and virtuoso solo instrument in its own right. In this spirit, he creates transcriptions to show the instrument's diversity of timbres. His recital programs are often structured according to the principles of stylistic contrast and storytelling: pieces from different musical eras are juxtaposed to create a musical dialogue and new meanings.

The concert will feature internationally renowned pianist János Palojtay, who has been described by Dénes Várjon as one of the most exciting personalities of his generation. His performing style is defined by his ability to improvise in various musical languages. He believes in freeing classical music from external constraints, which is why he also performs in Budapest’s underground scene.

The program begins with two Bach pieces: the first originally written for cello, the second for viola da gamba and harpsichord. This will be followed by Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro, composed in 1849 for horn and piano. After the intermission, works by Britten, Ravel, Villa-Lobos, and Bruch will follow, each performed in arrangements by Benedek Devich.
