Few things illustrate the unique place the Liszt Academy holds in Hungarian higher education better than the annual aria exam held each May. While exam results at most universities remain confined to professors’ and students’ memories and tucked-away pages of grade books, the aria exam of the Department for Vocal and Opera Studies is open to the public. It is both a moment of challenge for the students and an extraordinary aesthetic experience for all who care about the future of Hungarian vocal artistry and come to the Liszt Academy to hear these young talents.

The students present the arias they have studied throughout the academic year in a live performance with full orchestral accompaniment. They will be joined on stage by conductor Kálmán Szennai and the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra.
