Szabolcs Illés, Zsuzsanna Czentnár & Fanni Edőcs Chamber Recital

Handel: Trio Sonata in G major, HWV 399, Op. 5/4
D. Scarlatti: Keyboard Sonata in G minor, K. 30
Goldberg: Trio Sonata in C major
Händel: Suite in E major, HWV 430
J. S. Bach: Trio Sonata in G major, BWV 1039

Szabolcs Illés, Zsuzsanna Czentnár (Baroque violin), Fanni Edőcs (cembalo)

The trio of Szabolcs Illés, Zsuzsanna Czentnár, and Fanni Edőcs will perform works by Baroque composers on the stage of the Liszt Museum who would have been familiar to audiences of Liszt’s time. Two of the compositions were definitely part of Liszt’s repertoire: Scarlatti’s famous sonata – referred as ‘Cat Fugue’ since the 19th century –, whose unusual theme, according to some people, was borrowed by the composer from his cat walking on the piano, and Händel’s final movement from his Suite in E major. In addition, the matinee concert will feature trio sonatas by Händel, Bach, and Bach’s pupil Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, which was previously considered to be the work of his master. The compositions, performed on Baroque violins and harpsichord, will be interpreted by experts in historical performance practice: Szabolcs Illés studied with Sigiswald Kuijken among others and is also active as a music historian, Zsuzsanna Czentnár is a member of several prominent European early music ensembles, and Fanni Edőcs is the founder of several historical ensembles and experiments with unusual instruments such as the portative organ and the clavisimbalum.
