Hyeseon Jin (piano)
The winner in 2025 of the biennial Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Ohio, Hyeseon Jin, will perform masterpieces of Romantic and early 20th-century piano repertoire at her concert. The Korean pianist obtained her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and music literature at Indiana University and is currently an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina. The first half of the concert will feature well-known and popular works from the Romantic piano repertoire: Schumann's, Fantasiestücke, a collection of eight short character pieces, and Liszt's Après une lecture du Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata. Liszt's primary inspiration was the drama of the Inferno from the Divina commedia: the portrayal of demonic horrors, the hopeless torment of suffering souls, and the forbidden love story of Paolo and Francesca. He later wrote of all this: "I am moving deeper and deeper into Dante's Obscure Forest…" Respighi's Notturno, radiating tranquillity, guides the audience to more pleasant climes, before Ravel's sweeping dance poem, La valse, brings the concert to a close.
