Bartók Béla’s one-act opera Bluebeard’s Castle, based on a libretto by Béla Balázs, presents a captivating narrative about the complex relationship between a man and a woman. The opera explores themes of love, possession, and death, gradually revealing deeper layers of the two protagonists’ relationship as the plot progresses. However, the ultimate interpretation of the opera is always left to the audience. Composed in 1911 and premiered in 1918, this masterpiece will be performed by the Liszt Academy’s Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gergely Kesselyák, The soloists are both faculty members of the Department of Singing: Andrea Meláth, head of the department, will sing the role of Judith, while Péter Fried will take on the role of Bluebeard. This performance exemplifies the Academy’s diversity and high standards, where both young musicians and established artists can take part in outstanding productions. This time, the opera will be presented in a concert version, allowing the audience to fully focus on Bartók’s music.
