Liszt, the Teacher

4 May 2023

On 11 May 2023 a new temporary exhibition will open at the Liszt Museum.

The exhibition ,,Liszt the teacher" aims to present Liszt’s exceptionally broad aspect of thinking and of artistic approach.  The first manifestations of it can be traced at an early age which clearly outlined the need to transmit universal education. In the course of his teaching career, he practically realised, or strove to achieve, these aims formulated already in 1835 (On the position of artists and their role in the society). The themes of the exhibition are therefore limited not only to Liszt's work as a piano teacher, but also include some specific examples of the interpretative issues. He highlighted his need to expand the repertoire of his teaching material, his musical interpretations of other composers' works preserved in his instructive editions, and his teaching as composer.

The opening of the temporary exhibition and concert will be on 11 May 2023, 17:00 at the Old Academy of Music, Chamber Hall (1064 Budapest, Vörösmarty street 35.)

The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Andrea Vigh, Rector of the Liszt Academy of Music Javier Valdivielso Odriozola, Director of the Cervantes Institute Budapest and Dr. Zsuzsanna Domokos, Director of the Liszt Ferenc Memorial Museum. Miriam Gomez-Morán and Péter Kiss will performe at the opening ceremony.
