The 210th anniversary of the birth of Ferenc Liszt represents an important date for the entire classical music world, and we Hungarians make the commemoration of our distinguished composer a true celebration. Although works by Liszt written for solo piano find their way into repertoires throughout the world, his works for violin and piano – despite their excellence – are heard only rarely even at home. This is how the second elegy for violin and piano comes to the forefront of our concert alongside the frequently performed Fountains of Villa d’Este. In 2018, Miranda Liu and Éva Szalai received an invitation to one of the top festivals in Poland to put on the only Hungarian production as a way of bringing Hungarian culture closer to the Polish audience. Thus, beside Liszt works, pieces by epochal Polish composers are also performed here to honour Polish-Hungarian friendship.
